Bratcher contributed a two run single on Sunday

Bisons defeated 6-4 in series finale

May 4, 2008

Final Stats

The Bisons dropped the series with Winthrop on Sunday, May 3, as they were defeated 6-4 in the finale of the four game set.

Caleb Joseph got the Bisons on the board in the first, driving in Jorge Gutierrez with an RBI single to center.

However, Winthrop evened the game up with a run of their own against Bisons' starter, Josh Smith, in the bottom of the inning.

Winthrop took the lead in the second plating two runs to bring the score to 3-1. Winthrop expanded their lead in the third, scoring another two runs for a 5-1 lead.

From there, Smith shut Winthrop down, exiting the game with two outs in the seventh. In 6.2 innings, Smith gave up five runs on eight hits while striking out one.

The Bisons pulled a little closer in the eighth on a two run single off the bat of Blake Bratcher.

Winthrop got one of the runs back in the bottom of the eighth against reliever, Matt Bowling. In 1.1 innings of work, Bowling gave up one run on two hits.

The Bisons attempted one last comeback in the ninth, plating a run on an RBI double by Jay Moreland, but it was as close as they would come as they were defeated, 6-4.

Shane Simpkins, Gutierrez, and Moreland each recorded two hits in the loss. Smith received the loss to drop his record to 1-3.

The Bisons are back in action when they return to Ken Dugan Field to take on Samford in a single game on Tuesday, May 6, at 6 p.m.
