Brothers gave up eight runs in eight innings on Thursday

Bisons fall to Mercer 8-3 on Thursday

May 8, 2008

Final Stats

The Bears offense was too much for the Bisons in game one of the conference series, as the Bisons were defeated 8-3 on Thursday, May 8.

The Bisons struck first, scoring a run in the third when Caleb Joseph scored on a balk.

However, the Bears got to Bisons' starter, Rex Brothers for two runs in the fourth.

The Bisons retook the lead in the fifth. Joseph got things started with a leadoff single. One batter later, Justin Sanders hit a two run shot to right field to give the Bisons the 3-2 lead.

The Bears responded in the sixth, scoring four runs against Brothers, including a three run pinch hit home run by Steven Karwatt.

The Bears added to their lead with one run in the seventh and ninth inning to give Mercer the 8-3 lead.

Right-hander, Charles Williams, relieved Brothers with no outs and a runner on first in the ninth. In eight innings of work, Brothers gave up eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits, while striking out nine.

Brothers received the loss to drop to 2-5. With the loss, the Bisons are now 25-24 on the season, and 17-11 in the Atlantic Sun.

The series will conclude tomorrow with a double-header set to begin at 1 p.m. Right-hander Brandon McClurg will receive the start for the Bisons in game one, while left-hander, Mike Dunn is expected to take the mound in game two.
