Senior first baseman Heather Collins hit a home run.

Tennessee too much for Lady Bisons

March 25, 2008

Nashville, TN - The Lady Bison softball team took on nationally ranked Tennessee this evening and lost both games by scores of 8-0 and 4-1.

In the first game of the double header at Lee Softball Stadium in Knoxville, the Lady Bisons managed to take five hits from the Lady Vols, but were unable to put any runs together and lost the game 8-0 in five innings.

Tennessee freshman pitcher Ashton Ward earned the shutout striking out six Lady Bisons. Three Tennessee batters would pick up RBI's including a three run homer from sophomore catcher Tiffany Huff.

For the Lady Bisons, sophomore shortstop Abby Keese and senior first baseman Heather Collins each went two for two and freshman second baseman Megan Rottler went one for two.

The second game of the evening featured former David Lipscomb High School standout and Tennessee senior Megan Rhodes in the circle for the Lady Vols in the 4-1 decision.

Rhodes scattered five Lady Bison hits and struck out 12, and was on her way to earning her own shutout until senior first baseman Heather Collins slammed a solo shot over fence down the left field line to lead off the sixth inning.

Four more Lady Bisons would pick up hits including one each from centerfielder Lauren Dortwegt, shortstop Abby Keese, designated player Kellie Sirus, and pinch hitter Katie Haab, all from the sophomore class.

The Lady Bisons return home to open up a five date home stand against Florida Gulf Coast in the A-Sun game of the week on Friday, March 28. The first game is set to start at 5:00 PM. All of the action can be seen on ASun.TV.
